To move into the competition’s quarterfinals, Santos defeated Bolivar 8-0, which was one goal away from its biggest win ever in the Copa Libertadores (9-1 win over Paraguay’s Cerro Porteno in 1962, when Pele was playing). The Libertadores scoring record is Peñarol’s 11-2 win over Valencia (Venezuela) in 1970. La Universidad de Chile also routed Deportivo Quito 6-nil last night after losing 4-1 in the first leg.
